RESEARCH PROJECT OVERVIEW

What is the Future Role of the San Francisco Bay Area
in the Changing World of Globally Networked Innovation?

BASIC, known more formally as the Bay Area Science and Innovation Consortium, has created a new Fellowship Program to:

  • benefit the region’s future leaders in science and technology

  • highlight the regional innovation and global competitiveness of the San Francisco Bay Area

As its first research project, BASIC is working with Stanford University to understand the future role of the region – in other words, "Silicon Valley 3.0" – in the context of global innovation networks.

This effort builds on research and practice already underway at Stanford’s Center for Foresight and Innovation and Stanford’s Center for Design Research. With their guidance, BASIC Fellow Tamara Carleton, a talented Stanford engineering doctoral candidate, will lead the BASIC research project.

NEW! Read the BASIC press release announcing
the Fellowship program on April 7, 2009.
